Extra tools and equipment has been purchased to allow extra time for the items to be sanitised between clients.

A screen has purchased for the nail and payment station.

Disposable PPE has been purchased for both you and I to wear. There are disposable aprons, masks, gloves and shoe covers available. If you choose to wear your own mask that is absolutely fine.

I will be wearing a mask, visor, apron and possibly gloves during your treatment.

I ask that you bring minimal belongings with you to your appointment

I have invested in an digital consultation form that will be sent to you to complete prior to your visit.

Any appointment bookings will need to be scheduled via a telephone conversation or via the online booking widget.

No cash payments will be excepted at his this time, only card payments, Paypal or BACS payments will be excepted. If you book via the booking widget there is an option to prepay if you would prefer that option.

I will be operating a 1 in 1 out service. I ask that you remain in you car prior to your appointment time. I will call you to come in once the treatment suite is ready for you to enter. Only one person will be allowed to be present at your appointment.

Also please turn up on time for your appointment. There is no waiting area so I will not be able to see you any earlier than your time scheduled.

Parking is free, and you can park directly outside my property or on the street.

I will be taking my temperature at the start of my day and will inform you prior to your appointment if I am feeling unwell.

It's a bit of a long one, but informative...hopefully!

Exfoliation! Why is it so Important for my skin?

Are you the Queen of exfoliation? I personally absolutely love how my skin feels after I have exfoliated. So why is it so important for your skin to be exfoliated regularly?

Well here’s a fact for you, your skins sheds approximately 35,000 cells an hour! Therefore exfoliation is a critical step to ensure removal of dead skin cells to reveal fresh, smooth and glowing skin.

Here’s another skin fact for you. The Skin’s cell turnover rate is roughly around 28 days. Unfortunately as we age this process slows down. “How do I calculate my Skin Cell turnover rate?” I hear you ask. Don’t panic you do not need to be a Maths wizz! Ok, take the age that you currently are, and that’s your answer. For example: I am 35 years old, so my Skin Cell Turn Rate is approximately 35 days.

And lastly, it doesn’t matter what skin type you are exfoliation is for everyone.

Now we know some facts let’s talk about the Benefits to exfoliation.

It Unclogs Pores

By exfoliating we are sweeping away that layer of dead skin cells and surface debris that may remain on your skin still after cleansing. By exfoliating and removing this we are effectively stopping it from making its way into your pores, causing blackheads and whiteheads. If you are someone who suffers with this you will understand that it is very difficult to get rid of them, so by exfoliating regularly than we have a chance to stop them forming before they appear.

It Prevents Acne Breakouts

Acne Skin produces 4-5 times more skin cells, on the surface and within the pores or follicles than any other skin type, which is why exfoliation is crucial. Just as exfoliating reduces blackheads and whiteheads it also reduces other breakouts that lead to acne. Incorporating Exfoliation once or twice a week into your skin routine is recommended, but using an abrasive scrub is not what I would recommend. For an Acne prone skin I would suggest using a chemical based exfoliant rather than physical one, mainly because if your breakouts are red and inflamed already than a physical scrub will only make matters worse.

Enables Your Other Skincare Products to Penetrate Deeper

Do you ever get flaky bits on your skin? Is the first product you reach for your moisturiser? What if I told you it should be your exfoliator? By applying lashings of moisturiser on to dead, dry skin cells all you are doing is moisturising your dead, dry skin cells. By exfoliating regularly, we are freeing our skin of that dead layer that blocks and limits the penetration of the rest of your skincare.

It Evens Skin Tone

For those of us with dark spots, rough texture, hyperpigmentation and acne scars (and I know all about acne scars) know how frustrating it is to treat. By exfoliating and breaking down the layers of dead, dry skin we can achieve a smoother, more even tone to our skin.

It Increases Cell Turnover

Does your skin ever look dull and a bit lack lustre? And you wished that your complexion looked more radiant! I think you know what I’m about to say, “you need to exfoliate”. By exfoliating we are increasing our skin turnover rate and remember that drops as our skin ages. Other benefits result in a fresher, ultra-dewy, baby faced complexion.

It Stimulates Collagen Synthesis

And finally, regular exfoliation can stimulate your collagen synthesis. This helps to improve your skins texture, and helps the skin to look plump & tight equalling a younger looking skin. So exfoliating is actually anti-ageing too, I always say “exfoliate those wrinkles away”. And that’s because if you have a line or wrinkle that has a build-up of dead skin cells lying in it, that will actually accentuate your wrinkle, and nobody wants that.

I bet you can’t wait to go and exfoliate now you know the benefits, but how often should you be exfoliating and which exfoliator is right for you?

Regarding frequency of exfoliation I would say listen to your skin. Some skins will only be able to tolerant 1-2 per week where others will be able to exfoliate 3-7 times a week. It also depends on the type of exfoliation you choose to use, some people like a physical grainy exfoliator where others prefer a chemical based one. Below I have listed the range of exfoliators that Dermalogica provide, if you would like to discuss which one is best suited to you then please contact me on 07732478212.

You are what you Eat!

11 foods to Eat for Healthy Nails.

I’m asked a lot by my clients how can I make my Nails Stronger?

Well,  there are lots of factors that can contribute to weakened nails. Some can be the external stresses that we put on our nails, there could be hormonal changes too, medical conditions and medications that effect the health and growth of our nails.

So let’s talk about what you can do internally for your Nails, especially if you have any of the factors above. What I mean is what sort of food you should be eating to help the health of your nails.

Eating Lean Meats like Turkey, Chicken, pork, Beef and fish are essential for healthy nail growth because your nails are made out of proteins, so the first thing you could try is adding more protein into your diet

Then there are Fruits and berries, especially blueberries, strawberries and bananas. Fruit is a really healthy and easy way to get essential nutrients into your body. Anti-oxidants help protect your body’s cells against the damage caused by Free radicals. Free Radical damage will increase your stress hormones and inflammation, which impacts all the cells in your body, including those in hair and nails. Blueberries contain one of the highest antioxidant properties of all fruits.

Another high provider of antioxidants is grapes, and no unfortunately drinking wine does not count towards this! Strawberries and Kiwi’s contain high levels of Vitamin C, which helps the production of collagen, which helps your nails become more resilient. Vitamin A and B6 can be found in Bananas and dried apricots which are also great choices for healthy strong nails.

We all know the importance of eating our greens. Dark Leafy Greens, Spinach, broccoli and Kale are so essential for the health of your nails as they provide your body with enough Iron, Folate and Calcium to get your nails back to their optimum health.

Vegetables such as sweet potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and bell peppers are full of Vitamin C as we said earlier this is great for collagen levels. Sweet potatoes and carrots are high in Vitamin A, which we need to provide the necessary antioxidants to keep nails strong and protected.

If you enjoy a snack, I know I do, try snacking on nuts and seeds. They provide healthy fats that your nails might be craving. If you suffer with vertical ridges in your nails it may be a sign that you have a magnesium deficiency. Snacking on Almonds is a great source of protein and magnesium. Sunflower seeds are another great option to strengthen your nails too.

We all know that milk is a great source of calcium and Vitamin D which are both essential for building strong healthy nails.

Eggs! Whichever way you like them, scrambled, fried, poached or in an omelette, Eggs are a nutritional power house that gives your body benefits from head to toe. Eggs are one of the few dietary sources of Vitamin D, and their protein content is crucial for strong finger nails. Unlike meats, the protein in eggs is highly digestible and easily excepted by your body. Eggs also contains Vitamins B12, A and E, Iron and Biotin (more commonly known as Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H) Biotin has been scientifically proven to increase fingernail thickness and reduce brittleness and splitting.

Now Salmon is incredible for you nails because it contains three essential nutrients for healthy nails. Salmon is a fatty fish rich in protein, Biotin and Omega-3 fatty acids. It is packed full of healthy fats and Vitamins B6 and B12. These will keep your nails from splitting, breaking, peeling or otherwise falling apart.

For those of you who prefer a plant based diets, as many do prefer today and you still want incredible nails then Beans are what you need. Beans contain Biotin which I think we have all learnt through this Blog is an essential nutrient for our nails to grow happy and healthy. Also eating Legumes, like lentils which are packed with an incredible 9 essential vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins and Biotin, so add them into your soups and stews to reap the benefits for your nails.

And finally let’s talk about the benefits of whole-grains, like brown rice and oatmeal. Not only are they great for your energy levels but they are fantastic for your nail health. Whole grains like the ones used in brown rice contain sources of Biotin (that magic nutrient again), silicon and cysteine which keeps your nail tips healthy. Oats are also important as they contain micro-nutrients such as copper and zinc which are important for healthy finger nails. They also contain manganese, silicon, and B-complex vitamins which promote healthy fingernails and bones.

I hope that helps Ladies!
